Due September 10th, 2015
Task:
Write an informative essay of at least 2 double-spaced 12 pt. font
pages (typed) identifying and explaining three “good writing”
techniques in any (1) of the following stories: “The Cask of
Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, “The Tell-Tale Heart” by
Edgar Allan Poe, “A & P” by John Updike, OR “Death by
Scrabble” by Charlie Fish. Be sure to include at least two
direct quotes from the text in each body paragraph.
The format is as follows:
o An introduction with a hook and thesis
o Three body paragraphs with ONE topic sentence each and
supporting details
o At least two supporting quotes in each body paragraph from
the text
o A conclusion with a restatement of the thesis and an
interesting ending
o Your margins should be only 1 inch. Your spacing should be
double. Your font should be 12 point and Times New Roman.
Your name, my name, and the title of your paper should be
no more than 3-4 lines that make up 1/4th of the first page;
there is no need for a cover page. Your essay should reach
at least the bottom of the second page when these
requirements are followed.
o You are not required to use APA in-text citation for this paper,
but you must follow the conventional formatting
requirements for APA listed above.
Make sure this essay is at the college level and that its
punctuation is perfect. Please visit the Writing Center if
necessary or desired. The due date is September 10th, 2015.
There is a 10 point deduction per class past due. Documentation
must be submitted for any excused lateness and will be subject to
verification. Acceptable documentation provided by a medical
physician or institute or government office only.
