The Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) looks to both the motivation of the individual and to their behaviour while developing their career (Gushue & Whitson, 2006). It takes into consideration the client’s perception of the self via ‘self-efficacy’, which can be directly influenced by their environment (Zunker, 2012). Furthermore SCCT looks at the dysfunctional beliefs of some women who seem to have restricted themselves within the scope of their career development (Zunker, 2012). Bandura (1989) noted that human development and an individual’s environment determine a person’s life path. Therefore, in looking at an individual’s lifespan, it is important to note their socioeconomic status, their family background, educational background and even their biological background and current biological state (Bandura, 1989). A person’s biology can have an impressive impact on their career path in life. Moreover, socioeconomic status also denotes the type of sociocultural condition an individual thrives in, as this will ultimately determine which career path a person will follow.
