Behavior Modifcation

Pretend you have entered the workplace and need to teach someone (child or adult) either to continue a behaviour (e.g., bring you coffee in the morning) or to stop a behaviour (e.g., stop chewing on a pen). Using the learning/conditioning technique of your choice, explain how you would change (increase/decrease) this behaviour. You should also specify the frequency of reward or punishment if applicable (e.g., fixed interval, variable ratio, etc). This assignment has three parts: 1) description of the situation; 2) implementation of the solution; 3) rational for your selection. Each section is described in more detail below.

4-5 Pages. Please read rubric and apply only if you fully understand.

Thanks.

Behaviour Modification
Weight: 10% of Final Grade
Pretend you have entered the workplace and need to teach someone (child or adult) either to
continue a behaviour (e.g., bring you coffee in the morning) or to stop a behaviour (e.g., stop
chewing on a pen). Using the learning/conditioning technique of your choice, explain how you
would change (increase/decrease) this behaviour. You should also specify the frequency of
reward or punishment if applicable (e.g., fixed interval, variable ratio, etc). This assignment
has three parts: 1) description of the situation; 2) implementation of the solution; 3) rational
for your selection. Each section is described in more detail below.
Part 1- Description of the situation: In this paragraph, describe the behaviour that you wish to
modify. You should also describe the person that is doing the behaviour and the context
surrounding the behaviour (who, what, when, where).
Part 2- Implementation of the solution: In this paragraph, explain in detail how you will
modify the behaviour. Be sure to name the technique (classical conditioning, operant
conditioning, observational learning) and specifically how you will implement it in the
situation you described in the first paragraph. You should also explain the frequency with
which a consequence will be applied (if appropriate) and label any stimuli or responses as
conditioned or unconditioned (if appropriate). Be sure to use appropriate terminology from
the textbook (which you should put in BOLD FONT).
Part 3- Rational for your selection: In this paragraph, you will reflect on your choice of
behaviour modification technique and explain why you chose that technique (i.e., why you
felt it would be the most effective in THIS situation). To do this, you should also describe why
other methods (techniques, schedules etc) would be less effective. It should be clear in this
paragraph why you chose this behaviour modification approach and why you felt it would be
the most effective in modifying (increasing/decreasing) the behaviour of the subject. Once
again, be sure to use appropriate terminology from the textbook (which you should put in
BOLD FONT).
Be sure to correctly CITE any sources as shown in class (Author, date).
